Tesco Charity of the Year 2009
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is Tesco Charity of the Year 2009. Tesco staff and customers are aiming to raise £3 million to fund vital specialist equipment for children with muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases across the UK as part of the Giving children equipment to be independent campaign.
Muscular dystrophy is a progressive condition that gradually wastes and weakens muscles making it hard for children with the condition to do even the simplest of tasks. It is estimated that over 8,000 babies and children in the UK have muscular dystrophy or a related muscle disease. There is no cure for the condition, however, the equipment funded by the partnership will greatly improve the quality of life of many children across the UK.
