Q. What happens if my pet is taken ill before the insurance policy starts?

A. Your pet insurance policy may not cover any medical condition or symptoms that affect your pet before the inception of the policy and often nothing that occurs in the first 10 days after the policy begins. Check the terms and conditions for confirmation.

Q. What is a pre-existing condition?

A. A pre–existing condition is usually defined as any symptom or medical condition that your pet had before the day the pet insurance policy commenced.

Q. What advantage can I gain by monthly Direct Debit payment?

A. Monthly payments can be more convenient than an annual lump sum. You are protected by the Direct Debit agreement which protects consumers, adjudicating between banks and the business providing the service. Check individual pet insurers, but you should not expect to pay interest on a monthly payment scheme.

Q. Can I receive a discount if my pet is micro-chipped?

A. You should check with individual insurers, but there is often a discount available if your pet is micro-chipped.

Q. Would I have to pay vet fees or can insurers pay them directly?

A. Do check with the individual insurer, because sometimes the vet can be paid directly when cover is available and sometimes you have to make the initial outlay, for which you will be reimbursed. Sometimes a vet will also need to paid immediately for an emergency call out.

Q. What excesses should I have to pay for my dog or cat insurance if I was making a claim?

A. This will vary depending on the provider, but your individual schedule of insurance will normally outline the excesses applicable; it is always a good idea to read these details over.

Q. Are there discounts available if I insure more than one pet on the same policy?

A. Yes, in some cases a discount is available, please check individual insurers when getting a quote.
