Porsche is the mid-life crisis car of choice
Research published today by Tescocompare.com, reveals the average age of the owners of over 800 different car models from almost 90 different manufacturers. The research, based on over half a million car insurance comparison quotes on Tescocompare.com reveals:
- The average Porsche owner is 39 years old - with the Cayenne, Boxsters and 911 all typically owned by someone just about to turn 40.
- Fiats and Peugeots are typically owned by younger people - with the average Fiat owner 31 years old and the average Peugeot owner 32. Minis are also popular with younger drivers - with the typical driver being 33 years old.
- Of the major motor manufacturers it isn’t the stereotype of the Nissan, Honda, or Toyota that the more mature motorist chooses. The owners of these perceived reliable and safe cars are on average in their late 30s. In fact the average age of the driver of the archetypal ‘Granny Car’ - the Nissan Micra - is just 35.
- The manufacturers with the oldest drivers are Volvo (42), Mercedes (43) and Jaguar (47).
- And those who have gone green with their motoring are on average 50 - the typical age of a Toyota Prius owner.
Commenting on the research, Paul Baxter of Tescocompare.com said:
"This research has thrown up some surprising results - with cars we think are normally owned by the young having a surprisingly high typical age and visa versa. It seems the image of the driver created by car manufacturing advertising campaigns is not always the reality."
