Q. What exactly am I covered for?

A. When you receive your quotes, you will be able to view some of the key areas of cover for each of the policies listed. Under ‘policy details’ you will also be given the option to view the full policy wording. You should carefully read through all the documentation associated with your chosen policy to ensure you fully understand what is covered.

Q. What is annual cover?

A. This type of policy is also known as multi-trip insurance. It will cover you for several trips taken throughout the year (providing each trip does not exceed a certain number of days).

Q. When will I get my policy documents?

A. You can view all policy documents once you have purchased your policy, the documents should arrive via email within minutes. Please make sure you have used the most suitable E-mail address for this purpose. For an additional cost, you can request a hard copy of the same documents to arrive by post – please allow 5 working days for their delivery.

Q. What happens if I need emergency treatment while I’m away?

A. With most travel insurance policies, 24 hour emergency medical treatment is included. However, it is important that you check your policy documents carefully to understand exactly what you are covered for. For example, if you are planning a skiing holiday, you would need winter sports insurance to help make sure you are covered for injuries that happen on the slopes. The full policy wording for your chosen insurer will detail what to do in the event of a medical emergency. The policy wording can be found under ‘policy details’ on the quote page.

Q. How do I make a claim?

A. Details on how to make a claim on your travel insurance can be found in the insurer’s full policy wording. You can find this by clicking on ‘policy details’ in the quotes page.

Q. I’m planning to go on a cruise - will an annual policy cover this?

A. Each travel insurer available for comparison on Tesco Compare will offer slightly different policy options. Some may not offer specific coverage for cruises. To add cruise cover to your policy, you can simply select that option on the policy options tab and you will receive quotes from insurers that do offer cruise cover.

Q. Does my annual policy cover me for an unlimited number of days?

A. There will usually be a limit to the number of days cover you have for each individual trip taken. The limit may vary between providers, but is typically 31 days. Please check the policy wording for your chosen provider.

Q. What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A. This is any illness, disease or injury that the policyholder already has before they travel. This is applicable whether it has been diagnosed or not.

Q. Am I covered for a pre-existing medical condition?

A. If you or anyone to be covered on the policy has a pre-existing medical condition please call 0845 092 0521 (Calls are charged at 5p per minute including VAT) for further information about quotes in those circumstances.

Unfortunately we’re unable to offer cover online for pre-existing medical conditions.

Q. What sports am I covered for?

A. A list of sports which are routinely covered by each insurer can be found in the policy documents which you can read before you purchase a policy. There are some activities that are covered as standard by all the insurers quoting through our service. You can include cover for additional activities, extreme or unusual sports for example, for an extra cost.

Q. Do I need to take my policy documents away with me?

A. It’s advisable to take the full policy wording and policy certificate with you when travelling. These contain all the emergency contact numbers and policy terms and conditions.

Q. What happens if I lose my luggage?

A. If you arrive at your destination, but your luggage doesn’t - notify your airline as soon as possible. Make sure you are given a property irregularity report as you will need this to make a claim. Your policy documents should outline how you make a claim and exactly what documents you need to do so.
