Support you import
Imported cars are often specified to meet regulations in their origin country. The two main types are grey and parallel imports - both of which can affect the price and features of car insurance deals.
Grey Imports
Grey imports are usually vehicles which have been built in non-EU countries like Japan, the US or Canada; Japan is a popular choice for import car buyers. Higher specifications may command higher insurance, especially if the vehicle is more appealing to thieves. However, the process of buying, importing and finding suitable import car insurance can be costly. Repairs can be more expensive, while services may prove trickier due to differences in parts and specifications.
Parallel Imports
Parallel imports are cars bought from within the EU, but still have the specifications of the UK models. All cars sold within Europe must meet the same minimum standards for areas such as emissions and protection. Specification may be optional on some vehicles - such as interior trims - which would usually be included in the UK model.
The specification and warranty of the parallel import may affect its car insurance. Ultimately, there is no substitute for searching the market to get a good deal on insurance for an imported car.
