Claims or Convictions

It’s unwise to try to cut costs on your car insurance by covering up previous claims or convictions. Honesty’s the best policy. Get a quote from specialist insurers using the links below:

How can claims and convictions affect your car insurance?

There’s no safety in numbers when counting the cost of claims and convictions on your car insurance. Quite simply, the more convictions and claims you have, the more expensive your policy is likely to be. Whether you’ve been convicted for drink driving or speeding, you’ll most probably pay a higher premium.

Claims on your car insurance can also drive up your premium as you may lose your no claims discount or bonus if it is not protected.

* Typical refused claims:

  • undisclosed convictions
  • not telling insurers about previous claims
  • failing to tell insurers about modifications made to the car that could affect its safety or value
  • providing a false address where the car is kept
  • "fronting", where people try to cut premiums by lying to insurers about who is the main driver (especially where a young or inexperienced motorist is the main driver)

Lying about claims can equal pains

Bend the truth about your no claims discount or bonus history and you could void your car insurance policy. A healthy discount or bonus earned over five years can mean nothing if you lied about your no claims history.
