Protecting your business
Some covers are only suitable for certain types of business, and as such can be added on to your main business insurance cover as needed. These covers are no less important to your business than public liability, employers’ liability or professional indemnity and should be strongly considered when buying your policy.
Business Interruption
There may be periods when your business cannot function, for example if your premises suffered fire or flood damage you might be out of action for months. In these sorts of situations where you don’t have revenue coming in, business interruption insurance could fill the financial gap until you are up and running again.
Tools and equipment
When your tools are essential to running your business, any breakage, loss or theft is going to hit you hard. It makes sense to insure your tools and equipment so that if this happens they could be quickly and easily replaced at a greatly reduced cost to your business.
Business contents
Whether you work from home or an office you are likely to use office equipment without which it would be difficult to run your business. Therefore it’s important to make sure that your business contents are covered, especially for home-workers as it is likely in this case it won’t be covered by your home insurance policy.
Stock cover
If you keep stock on premises, you should insure it separately from your other business contents. Loss, theft or damage to stock can take its toll on your cash flow and so it makes sense to take out cover for it.
Product Liability
When you manufacture a product you are responsible for its quality. Therefore, if one of your products causes an injury or illness to another person your business could be liable to pay any compensation. Product Liability should cover you for such claims and related legal costs.
Legal Expenses
If your business becomes involved in a dispute you could end up paying a hefty legal bill. Legal expenses insurance could cover your costs in disputes over contracts, employment, criminal prosecution, property, tax and VAT, statutory licences and other business issues.
